8"x8"x1"
Stoneware, colored slip, copper
As I carved into these plates, fellow studio mates made comments such as, “Wow, cool bugs,” and “What do those symbols mean?” Neither symbols nor bugs, these plates are adorned with IUDs that were used in the past. The plates acted as test pieces; I wanted to see what would happen if I inlaid copper into clay and then fired it again in the kiln. Not unlike how these IUDs were tested and used on women. The copper was scorched and left burn marks, the women developed infections and left with scars.
