“Hidden Sparkle” is an expression of girlhood and what it means to be a woman. The glittery tear is an expression of the social pressures to remain beautiful under any circumstances, even in vulnerability. The action of applying makeup over the tear is a display of the public focusing us to hide and cover up our feminine energy. Reverting back to scopophilia, women are idealized and restricted to follow unrealistic beauty standards, even though we are all beautiful inside and out. The tear is meant to represent our internal beauty pouring out, and the pressure we feel to conceal it.
