There’s something about doing art that is actually quite challenging for me. I postpone, I think about it A LOT, and the frequency with which I do it is far less proportionally to the thinking of doing it. There seems to be a parallel with approaching something in my life, some emotion or story or or or. When I finally get to creating, I also finally get to being present for the emotional landscape that’s been wanting to rise to the surface.
We have many ways of communicating. Words are a common approach, as per this paragraph. Dance, song, silence, eyeballs, are several other ways to communicate. And art! If there is something stewing inside that feels like it could be represented visually, the process of making the piece could be an opportunity to continue reflecting upon that theme, that challenge, that beauty. Similar to how many relate to journaling, expressing mental happenings through intentional and not so intentional art making creates a container for processing to unfold. And if others have the great fortune to see the art, they are welcomed both into that artist’s world of process all the while coming at it from the perspective of their own.
