For me, art is a way of making the invisible visible. So much of mental health exists in the unseen—in the quiet battles we carry alone, in the shifting sense of self that comes with trauma or healing. When I paint, I’m not trying to fix or define anything. I’m allowing it to move through me. That process gives form to my inner world, and in doing so, helps me see myself more clearly. Art lets us hold our contradictions—grief and joy, fear and hope—in the same space. I believe it’s in that space where we begin to recognize the full, complex truth of who we are.
