The body of work I am currently working on shows soft gradients of complementary colors that construct nostalgic abstract atmospheres within my lifetime. The assembly of these landscapes is extremely warped to the point where they are unrecognizable. With these specific warped compositions mixed with unrealistic color palettes, I hope to communicate a sense of the unfamiliar and the uncanny adding moments of comfort and stability. To add another abstract element to my composition, I am compelled to use a scale to create landscapes within landscapes. I use the technique of overlapping as a strategic way to distract and confuse the viewer to question what is right and what feels wrong. Combining structural elements with organic movement gives my paintings balance compositionally and conceptually. The transparency within my pieces allows newer perspectives and it gives a whole new meaning to these opposing elements. With this combination, I can confront layers of vulnerability, growth, and power within my own life and that is what I hope to convey within my paintings.
