Leslie & Mike Hannon
The Bunker SLO is thrilled to present Double Vision, a dynamic duo exhibition featuring new works by prominent Central Coast artists—and husband-and-wife team—Leslie and Mike Hannon. Living and working together in San Luis Obispo County, the Hannons share a life but maintain fiercely distinct creative voices. Double Vision brings these two worlds into a striking, complementary dialogue, filling the gallery with raw texture, human movement, and inventive storytelling.
Following a successful 20-year career in the design and fabric trim manufacturing industry, Leslie Hannon made a powerful mid-career transition into full-time fine art. Her practice is deeply rooted in narrative exploration, identity, and memory.
For Double Vision, Leslie steps away from her miniature, intricate assemblages to showcase a collection of captivating figurative paintings. Working on raw, evocative surfaces, her paintings strip away the rigid structures of her past corporate life to focus on the fluid, emotional vulnerability of the human form. Her pieces balance a profound sense of texture with delicate, hands-on storytelling, inviting viewers to connect with the shared transitions of the human experience.
Mike Hannon is a highly versatile sculptor and painter whose work thrives on bold experimentation, dramatic scale, and playful ingenuity. Grounded in a deep appreciation for form and movement, Mike frequently challenges traditional mediums by integrating unexpected, everyday materials into his studio practice.
In this exhibition, Mike presents a series of large-scale figurative sculptures that depict dynamic human movement—swirling, dancing, and shifting through space. Crafted from rugged recycled redwood, utilitarian duct tape, and a variety of found objects, his sculptures bridge the gap between heavy, grounded materials and effortless, kinetic energy. His work brings a sense of raw, tactile curiosity and unexpected humor to the gallery floor.
While Leslie captures the internal nuance of the figure through layered paint and canvas, Mike projects that same human vitality outward into three-dimensional space using salvaged materials. Together, Double Vision is a celebration of creative partnership, resourcefulness, and bold visual storytelling.
