Missy Reitner-Cameron

owner, snacker, painter

Missy has been in the San Luis Obispo area for over 20 years living right down the street in the beloved LOBRO neighborhood. Having moved from LA, she was stoked to find a town that was smaller with more opportunity to do her own thing. In 2004, she founded (iii) DESIGN and over 15 years created a lot of the brand logos and styles you see in town today. With her amazing team, (iii) made great work, had fun and ate a lot of snacks.

In 2012 or 2013 (what is time?), Missy had the opportunity to rent 810 Orcutt Rd. This led to the beginning of The Bunker SLO which, in its first iteration, was affordable studio space for artists of all kinds. The first two bunkmates were Irene Flores and Jeff “Barn Boy” Sauer. (Bunker fact: Irene’s wife named The Bunker. She said if she ever needed a safe space from the zombies, this was it).  From there it grew to up to 10 emerging artists at max, making everything from sculptures and jewelry to cake decor and collage. Artists rotated in and out over the years creating art, leading workshops and hosting shows. In 2020 Missy decided that she was ready to be a full-time artist, closed (iii) DESIGN and planned for V2 of The Bunker. We all know how 2020 went, so she began waiting for the right time, which is now. Partnering with fellow LOBRO resident Brett Jones of Nautical Bean fame was a no brainer for Missy. Brett is an amazing human, great neighbor and makes fantastic coffee. Plus, he likes toys as much as Missy! The Bunker is finally open in its second incarnation but look out for V3, 4 and maybe 5 in the future.

Kalae (KAH-lye) KilinaLokeLani

gallery and events manager

Moved to the central coast as a teen. As a young adult Kalae began her career in the arts as a hairstylist in 2006. Hovering between artistic realms she began working with locally famous Steynberg Gallery in 2010. Her love and appreciation for art and community continued to grow over her ten year stint at Steynberg. In the last three years Kalae continued to fuel her artistic soul branching into different mediums of design across different industries.

In 2018 Kalae’s sweet friend Lena Rushing mentioned The Bunker to her during an art opening at Steynberg Gallery. Over the next few years the vision of what the Bunker would become became the ‘talk’ amongst local artists and friends.

In January of 2023 Kalae met Missy for the first time. They chatted over a stack of papers filled with Bunker ideas. And salads, rather LARGE salads. They discovered their paths crossed numerous times over the years, and have many things in common. Friends both professional and personal, a love for Hawaii (my hale), food, and (the best part) they are both Pisces. Kalae knew from that first meeting that she and Missy would align to create something amazing. Creating a space where arts will thrive, and community will grow is exactly what brought this team together….And Kalae’s heart is full knowing she is a part of it.
